It's always nice to have someone listen to you - to value your opinions and requests and then do something about it. The CCRS Board has done that for years, surveying members each year to discover their program and activity interests, and then planning events to reflect those interests. This year members stressed that they want to continue visiting member gardens, mixing CCRS organic fertilizer, maintaining the library's rose garden, and making some 'field trips' to local nurseries and a public garden as well. You also indicated a strong interest in programs on garden design, organic rose growing, and garden arts and crafts, with lots of delicious treats. You'll be pleased to see that the 2011 CCRS programs and events are just what you asked for! Here's a sneak peek:
FEBRUARY 21 (Monday) - "Organic Rose Gardening and Chocolate Extravaganza" - You'll learn some new tricks for eco-friendly gardening and enjoy delicious chocolate treats as well.
MARCH 21 (Monday) - Brian Zimmerman of Four Season Nursery will speak on "Landscaping with Hardy Roses and Native Plants".
APRIL 25 (Monday) - Library Garden Clean-Up. This event was originally scheduled for April 18 but due to weather issues this event has been change to April 25.
APRIL 30 (Saturday) - Fertilizer Mixing, Tool Sharpening & Potluck Lunch
MAY 14 (Saturday)- The Second Annual CCRS Nursery Tour - Take out your backseat, clean out your trunk, and join the CCRS crew on a spending spree tour of several local nurseries. We 'll stop for lunch along the way and wrap up the day at Moomers for Ice Cream!
MAY 19 (Thursday) - GUYS night out. Dave Tucker will coordinate the GUYS night out to take place at Black Rock Forge
JUNE 20 (Monday) - A Garden Walk at John & Marion Auld's lovely garden
JULY 23 (Saturday) - A series of Leelenau garden walks with 50 members of Lansing area garden clubs, with a delicious variety of refreshments
AUGUST 20 (Saturday) - A field trip to Dow Gardens and a visit to one of Midland 's coolest garden art & supply centers.
SEPTEMBER 17 (Saturday) - CCRS' Second Annual Plant Sale at the Botanical Garden site. Proceeds from the sale go to the new botanic garden.
OCTOBER 17 (Monday) - "Make You Own Garden Art" - a hands-on workshop to make hose guards and fancy garden stakes.
NOVEMBER 21 (Monday) - "Making Holiday Wreaths & Table Displays with Botanicals"
DECEMBER 3 (Saturday) - Annual Christmas Party and Potluck
